All White in Alberobello

trulliflowersme

A day in Alberobello. I blend into this surrounding with my white knit dress as we walk along the little pathways of this white town. The maze-like streets are surrounded with flowers, overflowing vine leaves and little shops of wine, linen and local produce. We stopped for a sword-fish lunch and indulged in a oliveoil tasting session where we got wonderful oils back home. Alberobello is a small cozy place, perfect for a day trip! We luckily avoided turist season, so we enjoyed the calm streets without massive crowds of people.

This picturesque small town is a UNESCO world heritage site for its unusual districts of trulli. The trulli houses are made from limestone and are white washed with a conical dome-like roof. This town is one of Europe’s best examples of a well-preserved urban area and that fact that these drystone dwellings are still in use makes the area unique and a remarkable survival of prehistoric building techniques.
