Verona, Italy

Verona, the city of romance and the playground of Romeo and Juliet that all revolves around grand opera  performances. Yes, I must admit as cliché as it is, a big part of me came to Verona to see Juliet’s balcony, as Letters to Juliet is one of my favourite movies as I am a sucker for Italy and that love story. However, I saw the balcony (if this even is the meeting place of the star-crossed lovers as it is debatable) and managed to capture a shot of it people-free. With everyone hurdling around and copping bronze Juliet’s breast for a mandatory photo or posing on the balcony pretending to be a distraught Juliet, it did indeed take away a bit of the charm I had built in my head. However I do understand it is a major attraction and everyone wants to see it, just like I did.

Despite this, Verona did impress with its old-time romance and charm. The robust buildings with creeks have a copious amount of character with the most amazing balconies that spill with greenery from all angles.  The old town is simply beautiful to walk through, no wonder the city is a Unesco World Heritage Site. It that builds up of crossroads, a grand piazza, Renaissance galleries, intertwining streets with boutiques, restaurants and ice cream shops and hidden churches. We stopped at gelateria ponte pietra that had the most amazing Fior di Latte, plain cream ice cream of the best kind and shopped at Via Mazzini. We stopped for lunch to taste a selection of mozzarella and burrata with different jams. I can tell you, they were mouth watering… Verona is mystical with its little own love story.
