Early Italian mornings

Corte Mainolda, Mantova

Before the sunrise reaches the glimpse of my eyes in bed, I hear the rooster crowing in the near backyard. From our bedroom window I can see the chicken, geese and ducks roaming freely all parched together underneath the rising sun plucking on the moist grass. Northern Italy is divine in the mornings, the sun rays spread across the fields introducing a new day. A morning in an Italian countryside is quiet and calm, dark inside the stone walls of the masseria with the dramatic light falling in through the windows creating streaks along the way. At breakfast, its serenely calm as I watch the steaming tea rise from my cup, excited about the upcoming adventures. The air is still and a bit damp from the morning mist, heavy but surprisingly fresh. You can see the day come to life, slowly and effortlessly in true Italian style.
