Christmas Tree

‘We breathed in the scent and beauty of all the natural trees around us as it just started to snow’

For many years now, my hubby and I have a tradition of picking up the tree from either one of our families countryside. This year however, we decided to make a day trip to an organic tree farm called Grangård located about an hour away from Helsinki in Hyvinkää. Here you can enjoy warm glögi (mulled wine) while you roam through the tree farm and cut down the one you desire. We love making a day trip out of the tree picking as it solidifies the start of Christmas season. We listen to tunes from ‘Home Alone’ in the car, eat snacks and make the most of being together. We choose a beautiful lush tree that almost reaches our ceiling and at the moment our living room smells of fresh pine that brings a cosy light to dark evenings. It’s time to decorate the tree with ornaments that I have carefully curated over the years with delicate crystals, matt greens and glistering icy baubles. Once the tree is up, it feels that the world around us becomes a little softer, basking in the warm glow of many twinkly lights. Christmas is all about traditions and I plan on holding to this one forever.
